Travel Gently with your End-of-Life Doula

Travel Gently is dedicated to providing services for end-of-life care. I specialise in offering compassionate support and resources for individuals and families facing terminal illness or sudden loss of life. Services may include guidance on advance care planning and directives, and exploring options for supporting your wishes for end-of-life along with after death care.

Let me introduce myself

Carmel CB2.jpg

I'm Carmel. I have over 45 years of nursing and midwifery experience. I have had the privilege of working with and supporting many people with loss and grief in various settings, such as rural and remote communities, in a person's own home or in a hospital setting.

The grief and loss you are experiencing could be from a sudden and unexpected death, or from the initial diagnosis of a medical condition that will alter your lifestyle or life expectancy.

I have learnt and strongly believe that grief and loss is an individual journey that needs to be respected and honoured. My role as a doula is to support you and your support peoples.

My qualifications and continual professional development are through Preparing the Way and National Association for Loss and Grief.

Where your end-of-life doula fits in.

Your Journey

Your journey is unique. As your end-of-life doula I am able to support you and your carers on your journey, to work with you to learn about your option of management and cares, and for me to support you so that your wishes, questions and opinions are listened to, supported and respected.

Navigating the health systems and appointment may be overwhelming, scary and confusing at times, I am able (if you request) advocate for you to your primary care or multidisciplined team with you

My support extends from your diagnosis through to after death cares.

Family/Supporters Journey

As an end-of-life doula I support (with your consent) your family and supporters to explore and understand support services that are available to both you and them, to explore a way to better understand your journey and how they are able to support you, themselves and each other.

So that the support people's grief, feelings, questions are acknowledged and supported, I am able to support and open up difficult discussion between all cares and you as needed. If your support person needs to take a break to care for themselves, I am able to be with you.

Health care workers

I practice as a non-medical support person. I do not diagnose or give medical advice: I do not administer or handle any medication.

I do not replace your primary care giver, or multi-discipline team, I work with you alongside these professionals, I am part of your team.

Administrative supports

I support you and your family to ensure you prepare your will is current, and that your Power of Attorney and Enduring Power of Attorney have been organised.

Do you know about an "End of Life Plan" and "End of Life Directive"? I am able to help you explore your questions, options and to work out your choices,

These choices cover all cares from diagnosis to after death cares and wishes.
